In Year 10 and 11, you will be building upon the 4 main skills of speaking, reading, listening and writing. By definition, lessons are lively, varied and interesting and you will have the opportunity to work with native speakers. You will also have access to your own personalised online learning space, Kerboodle! to support the learning in the classroom.
Why learn a Modern Foreign Language?
To improve your job prospects and widen your horizons, to communicate with people in other countries, to broaden your mind, to make holidays and trips abroad more interesting by being able to cope in everyday situations, to learn about life in other countries and cultures. All students are strongly recommended to study at least one Modern Language in Years 10 and 11 to GCSE. The choice of language is dependent on your course of study in Year 9. Students who have had the opportunity to study German or Spanish as a second language in Year 9, are encouraged to continue with both French and German/ Spanish at GCSE. If this is not your preferred option, you may choose either French or German/Spanish.
Where can it lead?
A GCSE in Modern languages is suitable for anyone wishing to study French, German or Spanish at AS Level. A Modern Language also compliments Post-16 advanced studies in Business and Economics, as well as Travel and Tourism. Students who have a GCSE in a Modern Language, are at a distinct advantage when applying for University places
