What will the course be like? The following topics are studied in GCSE History:

 

Unit 1 Crime and Punishment

 

A study of the change and continuity of criminal activity, the response of authority, use of punishment and changing attitudes from 1450 to the present day.


Unit 2 The American West


c1840-c1895 How the American West was settled and developed and the impact on the Native American peoples.

 

Unit 3 Protest, Law and Order in the 20th Century

 

4 case studies on the causes, leaders and tactics of protest in the 20th century: from Suffragettes to the Poll Tax Riots of the 1980’s


Unit 4 Representations of History


Students follow one of the following Impact of War 1914-1950 or The Vietnam War 1960-1975 Your teachers will be working hard to make lessons interesting and varied. As well as work in the classroom, there will be a chance to go on a residential trip to London and a day trip to Leeds Armoury.

 

Assessment:


The course is assessed by both examinations and coursework. Units 1, 2 and 3 are assessed by three exams worth 75% of the final mark.


Unit 4 is a piece of coursework completed under controlled conditions and marked by your teacher. It is worth 25% of the final mark. These four assessments will be spread throughout the course to help balance the assessment load for students over the two year GCSE.

 

Where can it lead?
This course provides a good foundation for anyone wishing to study
History at Post –16.
