Product Design

Is all about turning great ideas into things which are really useful for people” – quote from a Year 9 student. Some are new ideas which create totally new markets but most products have evolved from existing products. One of theskills of a product designer is to make a product which appeals to a particular group of people at the right price.

The Course:

Product Design is aimed at students who enjoy working creatively to produce design ideas using combinations of Computer Aided Design (CAD) software and more traditional presentation methods, and then go on to either make or model their design. In this course you will design and manufacture useful working objects using materials such as wood, plastic and metal. You will typically use traditional manufacturing methods as well as Computer Aided Manufacturing equipment (CAM) such as the CNC router and lathe.

Graphics

Is based around using images, text and modelling materials to display, advertise and package items. Increasingly this is focused on designing using computer packages, although traditional methods are still important. One of the skills of a graphic designer is to make a product which appeals to a particular group of people at the right price.

The Course:

Graphics is aimed at students who enjoy working creatively to produce design ideas using combinations of Computer Aided Design (CAD) software and more traditional presentation methods, and then go on to either make or model their design, as appropriate.
