Physical Education Department

Introduction:

In Years 10 and 11 students are able to participate in an options programme encompassing indoor and outdoor games, fitness, dance, athletics and trampolining. A two year GCSE course in Physical Education is available for those students who opt to follow this academic opportunity. A BTEC First Certificate is also available for those who wish to follow a more vocational pathway into the sport industry.

Students are given the opportunity of opting to follow the JSLA (Junior Sports Leaders Award), which is a national leadership award and other accredited sports courses for example: a football organisers award and a basketball referees award.

Where can it lead?

In Year 12, students have the option of participating in the AS level Physical Education course, and/or the Community Sports Leaders Award. The Higher Sports Leaders Award course is run in Year 13, as well as A2 level Physical Education. Leisure facilities are available on site and also at Ashington Leisure Centre.

A First Aid Certificate course is offered during Tutor Period.
