ICT Department

Introduction:

ALL students will follow a core programme of ICT. All students will do ICT Functional Skills and either GCSE ICT or the BTEC First qualification.

The functional skills standards assess candidates’ abilities to:

- Use ICT systems
- Find and select information
- Develop, present and communicate information.

Functional ICT Level 2 corresponds with National Curriculum ICT Level 5/6; and Functional ICT Level 1 corresponds with National Curriculum ICT Level 4. Ideally, all students should achieve the ICT Functional Skill at Level 2 to achieve success at GCSE.

At Level 1, candidates will:

Be able to use ICT in a number of different situations to help them to solve problems. Students will be expected to apply their ICT skills and knowledge to a situation to help them produce a final outcome.

At Level 2, candidates will:

Use ICT with confidence and use a variety of software efficiently to solve problems. Students will be expected to apply their ICT skills and knowledge to a range of situations and to solve problems overcoming challenges to produce successful documents.

GCSE ICT

Students taking this route will be self motivated, independent learners who are able to complete elements of their course at home. There are three parts to this course:

Unit 1 - Theory Exam
Students will learn about how ICT works and how this impacts on society.

Unit 2 - Assignment
Applying ICT Controlled Assessment over 25 hours Students will be given a scenario and a set of problems. They will have to select relevant tools and applications to create a solution.

Unit 3 - Assignment

Practical Problem Solving in ICT Controlled Assessment over 25 hours Students will have to create a system by designing and implementing a solution using ICT tools and applications
